Breast Disease

Fox Valley Surgical Associates has long been the leader in diagnosing and managing breast problems throughout Northeast Wisconsin. Our surgeons have brought to our area newer, less invasive techniques for both biopsying and excising breast lesions. By jointly working with other specialists in the ThedaCare breast centers, we provide a comprehensive approach to breast care involving mammography and other diagnostic imaging, breast biopsies, treatment strategies, and cancer risk-assessment.

When needed, our surgeons have extensive experience in treating breast cancer, with a yearly average of over one hundred-fifty breast cancer patients. Our goal is to provide the most appropriate cancer resection for each individual patient as dictated by the type, size and location of the tumor. Cosmetic appearance, function and reconstruction options are always considered when helping each patient choose the right surgical option, whether that be breast-saving resection (lumpectomy), complete breast removal (mastectomy) or mastectomy with reconstruction.

After surgery, we thoroughly discuss the pathologic report and its significance with the patient and their family. As members of the Martha Siekman Cancer Center, our surgeons consult with other doctors in planning comprehensive treatment of patients with breast cancer. When appropriate, our multi-specialty approach affords patients the combined benefits of chemotherapy and radiation therapy in addition to their surgical treatment.

Our surgeons at Fox Valley Surgical Associates participate in national clinical research involving breast cancer surgery and treatment issues. We are members of the American College of Surgery Oncology Group. We also participate in association with our colleagues in medical oncology and radiation therapy to include studies of these treatment modalities. This clinical research allows us to offer our patients access to some of the most innovative treatment options not yet available to other surgical practices. We feel this is an important role for us as surgeons and researchers to improve the care we deliver today's patients and to improve our ability to care for patients in the future.
